Introduction

Hello,

My name is Colby Fraser and I attend Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Currently, my major is network engineering. I plan on changing my major to computer programming. My dream job would be owning my own programming company where I would subcontract projects. My expectations, however, are to be at least a lead project manager at a well-known company.

I have a few hobbies. I enjoy snow boarding and video games. I signed up for Ski and Snowboarding club here at school, as well as Psychology Club. I love riding my bike and BMX. Video editing in Sony Vegas Pro is fun as well.

I am from the small town of Pembroke, New Hampshire. I have lived in New Hampshire for my whole life, half of it in the city, the other in a town. I hope to gain needed knowledge to succeed in this industry from this class and future classes.

Ryan Pinkham's blog "8 Things Small Businesses Must Know About the Future of Mobile Marketing" is another article on consumer behavior with mobile electronics. In this article, Ryan states that mobile has already taken over most of how the market and it is only a matter of time before every business is mobile oriented. This blog is set up very similar to the first post (both articles are from the same author. Once again, the information has an introduction with numbered sections to read. He provides links to every source by hyperlink. The information is easily located and relevant to the topic at hand. The information in this article is well put together.

Retailers Are Investing More In Mobile

Leena Rao's article "Google’s Predictions For Holiday Shopping: Retailers Are Investing More In Mobile, In-Store Tech" gives insight on business expanding their in store mobile technology and customer mobile interactions. This site is one of the links from the first post. This was posted on October 23rd, 2012, right before the holiday seasons. This post was more in-depth and gives more statistics than the first. It gives easy to read graphs and creditable sources like the head of Google's Retail Department. The post stats that more people will be using mobile devices to compare prices, find stores, find coupons, and read reviews. This can drive traffic into stores and help keep the sale.

Mobile Users in Holiday Shopping

The Blog "4 out of 5 Mobile Users Will Use Their Mobile to Aid in Holiday Shopping" by Ryan Pinkham discusses how mobile users will be using their phones to help shop for the holidays. The audience for this article is business owners.Pinkham gives five different sources about social networking. However, only the first one directly deals with mobile users using their phones for shopping. The other four articles describe the number of facebook mobile users, pinterest verified accounts, twitter's expanded tweets and pinterest breaks the top 50 most viewed web page. The "Bottom Line" section under each numbered source is helpful to describe how a business can benefit from the topic. The information is numbered one to five with the titles of each linked to the source. The set-up of the blog is convenient, but the some of the information seems unneeded.

LinkedIn

Today, I learned that LinkedIn is very useful for finding jobs and is a professional Facebook account. Above is the beginning of my profile. You can view my page by clicking here I added schools I attended, as well as jobs I've had. Soon, I will upload a resume and hopefully recommendations from previous employers and teachers. In order to be successful on LinkedIn, I have to have multiple connections and recommendations. In the job market, it seems that no matter what, it is always about who you know and LinkedIn is a great place to grow connections.

Life in a Fish Tank

This video shows the wonderful life of being a fish in a fish tank. If you watch the video, you can tell that I added some sarcasm. The opening and middle of the video I created for a previous activity. I took out the end and made a shark come in to attack the fish. It starts with the fish introducing themselves, then them wanting to do something. They decided on tag, however a shark comes to attack. The green fish stays, while the other two flee. The green fish realizes he is dreaming and the shark disappears.

Alice 2-1 In the Lab Penguin Dance

Above is a homework assignment for FIT1012. I used Alice 2.3 to create a scene of penguins talking and dancing together. The skill set I learned is that methods can be used to organize the code for future use and debugging. There are three penguins; Pamela, Peter, and Paul (left to right). At first, they each give a greeting, then peter says "welcome to the Penguin Dance". They all start dancing. The closing scene has them one by one exiting the scene by gliding.

Alice 2.3

Alice is an object-oriented programming application that allows users to learn the basic fundamentals of the end product of programming without coding. I found the program user-friendly and creative. The program makes organizing information easy. So far, the task have been simple and I swept right through them. However, I am sure that there will be tedious assignments to come.

Twitter for Business

Tyler McMullen, Tim Batzinger, Richard Potts, and myself made a Google presentation on the benefits of twitter for business. Twitter can be used for large corporations to advertise a new product line to the masses or small business advertising to a small group of users. The full presentation can be viewed here I learned twitter can spread the word quicker than any other type of advertisement out there and companies can actually earn money by advertising. You can read more about this in an article I found called Twitter Promoted Products 101
